About Us
The Search for Better, Safer, Greener Labels
David Jenkins set up KiD Labels in 2005. His two kids inspired the idea for KiD Labels. He wanted to ensure that they always knew which things belonged to them, so he searched for a label that was practical and durable. He initially used PVC labels, but became concerned about the harmful effects that PVC can have on the environment and human health. Believing that there was no reason why a successful business could not also be an environmentally friendly business, he sourced new labels that enabled him to identify the kids’ belongings in an environmentally safe way.
The two kids are now his primary test market for all new labels! Whenever they leave things lying around, people will know whom they belong to. And hopefully will return them.
KiD Labels Mission Statement
To provide the Best Quality Labels
At a low Price
While ensuring that all materials used are Safe for the Environment and Human Health.
To provide the Best Quality Labels.
KiD Labels are continually testing and searching for better labels. Our aim is to supply the best ‘sticker label’ and ‘clothing label’ that is available. Because of our commitment to providing a quality product that meets our customers’ needs, we are always eager to receive feedback from you. This feedback enables us to further enhance our products.
At a Low Price.
As you can see, our labels are competitively priced. This is despite the fact that our labels are considerably more expensive for us to purchase, than PVC labels.
And the more labels you order, per label design, the cheaper the labels get.
While ensuring that all materials used are Safe for the Environment and Human Health.
Many of the ‘kids’ sticker labels, and an ever increasing number of iron-on clothing labels, used today are made from PVC.
PVC (polyvinyl chloride, also known as vinyl) is an environmentally unfriendly chemical compound that is widely used in the construction industry. It is a tough material and can be produced relatively cheaply. However, its toughness causes it to be somewhat inflexible. In order to make it more flexible, it is mixed with chemical additives called phthalates. These give the PVC a more “plastic”, pliable quality.
However, the phthalates have been known to cause toxins to leak from the PVC and increase the risk of cancer, asthma and allergies. They have also been linked to damage to the reproductive system, the liver and the kidneys. As a result, the EU banned the use of various phthalates in children’s toys and child care products, because of concerns that children could become ill if they put the items in their mouths. The USA imposed a similar ban in 2008.
Other concerns about PVC include the release of dioxins during its production process. Also, dioxins can be released into the atmosphere when PVC is incinerated after use. Similarly, toxins can be released into the soil if PVC is dumped into landfill. And its chemical constitution makes it very difficult (and expensive) to recycle PVC. In other words, PVC can cause problems when it is produced, all through its lifetime and even when it is disposed of.
Surprisingly, most of our competitors still use PVC labels!
KiD Labels sticker labels use a combination of polypropylene and polyethylene, resulting in a much “greener” label. For example, the labels do not emit toxins when heated, so they can be safely used in microwaves. They can also withstand the hottest dishwashers and baby bottle sterilizers. This unique chemical compound also creates a highly flexible label, capable of bending itself to your needs.
KiD Labels iron-on labels are made of a polyester material. (PET)
Note: Greenpeace gives PVC a score of 1/5, rating it as the worst plastic in the world, for the environment. Polyethylene and polypropylene get a score of 4/5, and PET a score of 3/5.
Only bio-based plastics receive the top score of 5/5. However, there are currently no bio-based plastics that have all the characteristics that are needed for the labels.

• Kidlabels.com is hosted with ecohost.coop. Their servers / Data Centre uses electricity from 100% renewable sources.
• Our office uses electricity from 100% renewable sources.
• We use 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper in all our stationary and packaging.
• Our paper consumption is kept to a minimum, with most of our files being stored on computer.
• Most of our office waste is collected for recycling.
• We check the environmental origins of all materials used in our products.
• We ensure that ethical labour practices are used in the production of our products.
